I was so mad about this. My child calls me an hour and twenty mins after they are supposed to be off work to tell me they were just leaving despite the text 15 mins prior that said they were leaving. My child works for a fast food chain and is still in high school. It is time to get off and they just kept them working because they were short staffed. My child has to go to school in the morning and they know this as they have a work agreement with the school for one of their classes. My child said they had clocked out and then the manager told them to do the outside trash. So my child worked off the clock. I said do not ever do that again. You do not work for free. They will never do you favors so you don’t do them favors. If they insist, clock back in and get paid. My child said they were worried about losing their job with that reaction. I told them that their time is not free. If they are not being paid they do not have to do a thing the manager asks. They won’t miss their chance to get paid off your back.
I really want to go give them a piece of my mind but tbeh asked me not to and I am going to respect that. My child has already advocated for themselves that they will not be working past 10 on school nights any longer. I’m proud of my child for setting that boundary!
Parents, get involved in your child’s work life so they learn boundaries early on and know their value because the companies don’t care how old you are to take advantage.
