Thanks to this sub I was able to hold my calm and explain myself in an interview.

Longtime lurker, first time caller. Ive been out of work for almost a year since I moved from Chicago to NC. I just got my drivers license so after fixing issues with our fixer-upper I was finally able to get back into the working world. I answered questions on indeed with the application. After submitting it had 3 extra questions where you record your response in order to move to the in person portion. I pass these then schedule the in person for today. I get there and I have to hand fill out basically the exact same application except this had what my starting and ending pay was, as well as what I was asking for.

I just cross those out because that information has nothing to do with the job I'm applying for. The guy is 30 mins late and I'm already a little frustrated and nervous because I need a job and this is a good fit. We start the process and he asks why I didn't fill that information out. I took a breath and collected myself. I confidently said that that information isn't relevant and that the range for this job posting was $15-25hr of which I feel that given the market and my experience and qualifications I feel that what Im asking is more than fair for the position. He seemed a bit taken aback and annoyed.

After talking to him a bit more explaining my duties, which were 10x what is expected here, he seemed to open up a bit. I still didn't get too good of a feeling about getting the job but Im hoping I'll get a call back for the next steps.

It's because of this group that I didn't just put that information down and I was confident to convey how I felt about even being asked the question. Make them pay you what you're worth and if they pass you up theres always someone else out there who will value as an employee.
