I work in news, and the person in charge of sending stories disappeared on deadline, which was super frustrating. Then she came back and said she had to take her dog to the ER and my first thought was, “Seriously? We're on f***ing deadline!”
And then I felt terrible because I would absolutely leave work without warning if one of my animals needed emergency care because eff this job. I've been here eight years, raises basically don't exist, and they just laid off a bunch of people while advertising for jobs in their own newspapers.
The “work work work work work” mantra has just been beaten into my bones. Is this what brainwashing feels like?
(I don't know if the doggo is okay, I expressed well wishes and she said “we hope so too.”)
