TW: verbal abuse, inappropriate (censored) words and phrases.
Ive been at work over the Easter Long Weekend here in Australia. I work in an extremely large Retail/Cafe space along a very popular tourist superhighway which has a huge demographic of interstate, regional, and international travellers; and locals too.
I'm usually glued to the coffee machine and during this weekend and most weekends however this was different. The sheer entitlement from people was just mind boggling!
At 9am we would have numerous 5-10 person parties arrive and all order coffee and expect it to be the next order out. Times this by the probably 10000 customers who came in and the wait time for her drinks was between 30-40 mins as myself and the other barista sifted through the coil of dockets to try and get the take away ones done first (as per the owners request).
BUT in Sunday and Monday I was hosting. In my state we are unfortunately enough to still require proof of vaccination for seated partonage to the Cafe and although Sunday was tame – people were filled with Easter joy – Monday was abysmal.
I was called; a Nazi, one of [state political leader]'s p-ssy followers, a fat f–k, told to stop sucking the d-ck of Karl Marx's regime.
I was told by a person to get on my knees and suck his c–k if I'm so into being told what to do.
There were a couple of other but I stopped interacting with them mid abuse and began hosting the next customer.
All because I have to follow a state mandated and enforced requirement to ensure all seated patrons are fully (double) vaccinated and they could not show me proof. If I break this rule and get caught; the customer, the workplace, and myself will all be heavily fined.
I left work at 6pm absolutely defeated and hating myself.
Why are people like this?
