Today in this sub I read the following highly upvoted take from OP about today's picture from r/Art in which the workers cleaning up the liquid thrown by climate protesters on a museum picture:
Common argument against strikes/protests is that it'll hurt the other workers. Don't fall for this BS [resp. don't fall for this piece of Art]
Well, I'm on his side, but my take is another. I think this piece of Art hits the nail on the head.
I think, in the end, the climate protest is currently only a bourgeois-intellectual movement that wants to maintain the previous relations of production or its own power positions in them in a more climate-friendly way. But in the ecological exploitation of the earth by those relations of production and their exploitative logic, this movement in the end therefore merely loses itself in a paradox.
And the worker has to continue to pay for everything and does not feel understood, when he already has to perform in an unjust way and yet is only lectured. And the climate activist does not understand that capital makes politics and not politics makes capital and thus any pressure on politics by pressure on the worker is in vain. But why don't these activists understand that, I wonder?
I mean, after all, in the Berlin traffic blocking protests this movement already has – with the poor workers who can't get on the autobahn to work – right before their eyes the servitude of mankind as a symbol of the servitude of Mother Earth, and yet they can't put one and one together.
Their minds seem to have become sluggish because of the bourgeois, well-fed economic cushion which, ironically, gives them the time in the first place to sit down in front of the automobile vehicle of the struggling worker. I tell you, that bourgeois comforting cushion seems to be too thick for the activists to feel the coldness of the asphalt of the Berlin city highway as the ground of facts underneath their backsides. A ground, on the other hand, on which the worker must move every day.
But well, what now?
You want to save the climate? Right and important! But then fight the capital and free the civil society and thus also in your sense the earth from the chains of a morally hollowed out logic of exploitation, from which you yourselves profit, instead of instructing the people which actually stand in hostage of your class from a bourgeois comfort zone about a strategy, which cannot function, as long as you do not saw on your own branch.
You are part of the problem so far. Be part of the solution! Climate protest means class struggle!
But don't get me wrong, it's not about devaluing the climate protest. It is all a dialectical process, a discourse in which the class question must engage with the climate question.
Together with differences is the maxim.
