The Employee that Lives Close

I recently started a job. My three months will be up next week. It is close to home. Yesterday there was a thunder storm alert and the other two employees were told to leave early but I'd have to stay. I kinda get where the management was coming from but I also don't. In my interview, she mentioned that she was happy I “wasn't working at the time of hire” I have no idea why, and she was happy I lived close. I am concerned that come Winter, they will be allowed to work from home when I have to come in the office since “I live close.” Am I asking too much?
