The interview paradox

I interviewed for a job recently. I just graduated college and plan on moving to a different state in a year when my partner graduates, so I’m not looking for anything serious. However, everyone told me to absolutely not mention that in the interview. Despite a kick ass interview, they turned me down for the job, saying I probably would be more fulfilled elsewhere because they don’t know if this place has enough growth opportunity for me, and that I seem like I should be working a job that I can grow with and move up faster. I guess in trying to hide the fact that I’ll be quitting this job next year, I accidentally convinced them that I wanted to manage the business for the rest of my life. Whoops.
