I have almost $0 in my bank account because I just started this job after being let go from my previous one because they were cutting back on the amount of employees they had. I was given no warning so I could be prepared and was already living paycheck to paycheck. What tiny bit of money I have right now needs to be for food until my first paycheck from my new job.
I work in a preschool and we had a sick kid in my class last week. This kid coughed all over everything including me several times and now i'm feeling sick. I don't work until tomorrow, but texted my boss today to update on how I was feeling. I thought I was doing her a favor saying something today instead of 6AM tomorrow so she could go ahead and contact one of the substitute teachers.
She said I needed a doctor's note and I was completely honest and said I couldn't afford a visit and I just got cut off my mom's insurance because I had a birthday and now too old to be on hers. I said it's not a severe sickness so I was planning to self medicate with what we have here at home and let it go away on its own in a few days as it should.
She shamed me for having not gone to the doctor's on friday when I started to feel the symptoms while working because that was the last day I had insurance, but I didn't end my shift until the doctor's offices were all closed and it wasn't bad enough to go anyway.
