Hi all, I work as a low/mid-level manager at a big multinational company. Owners and management are separated in these kinds of companies. What is the goal of the owners? To make as much profit as possible. What is the goal of management? The goal of an HR manager is to hire the best people. The goal of a project manager is to deliver his or her project most efficiently. Bullshit. The goal of management is, or should be, to make as much money as possible for themself, with as little work and liability as possible. But this is not clear to 99% of the people. They work hard, make sacrifices, and often go the extra mile for the company. But why? The worse of all is that they also expect from you the same. In this modern corporate setup, they don't force you to do that by force, but they try to convince you with psychological tools. They are very nice to you, they want to be friends, they organize team buildings, they want you to go to the office to meet even if it's not mandatory, etc. They create all these additional activities and discussions, which drain your energy and make you feel bad because if you are a manager, this “go for the extra mile” attitude is a must, even if you deliver good results without doing overtime and all the additional let's be friends, the work and the company is the best thing ever bullshit. But why do they do that? And most importantly, why 99% of the people don't understand this? And I think they wouldn't understand it even if you directly tell them. Or they don't want to understand it. I don't know. This is a lie circling down from top management to the bottom of the company, and almost everybody is buying and loving it.
