During the holidays we had a call with our team for our holiday party and my manager announced ahead of time that we would be playing a game with a $25 gift card prize in the beginning. The game was that one of the senior levels at our company is on a trip somewhere in the world and we would have to guess where this person is. We were all sent pictures ahead of time for some clues. Me being interested in the prize, I did some detective work and translation and figured out the country. We are now on the call and going in turns either asking question or guessing. The person on the trip has their camera on and they have shown some things. I was last to go so everybody had a turn to either ask or guess. It became my turn and I asked if I could guess and my manager said yes. I guessed the country and the person on the trip said “YES!!! how did you know?” They seem impressed that I guessed it on my first try. So I basically was talking to that person, explaining how I guessed and all that thinking the game is over because basically I guessed it. All of the sudden my manager says hold on its not over, you have to guess the city. Without giving me an opportunity to guess the city, my manager says next person. So at this point the country is known and we have seen enough on video to put which city it is. I was shocked at that point as I spent quite a bit of effort getting the country. The person after me was my coworker who basically said they googled the country with the things in the video and got the right city and took the $25. And then my coworker basically tells me thank you sarcastically to rub it in at the end.
This is a quite funny story to me because I was relatively new at the time and so was this coworker who took the $25. But my manager and this coworker became friends and I would consistently do 2-3x more work than them and my manager would treat me worse and worse as time goes on.
