They fired me and my co-workers, then branch closed down

Disclaimer. This happened back in 2016; I've only just discovered this sub. For my first (part time) job, I worked at the local Subway while I studied. There were several things off from the very start. My manager didn't show up to my first interview. I left after a half our of waiting in the restaurant and got a text 2 hours later asking where I was. We rearranged the interview for next week and someone completely different interviewed me, who I've never spoke two and didn't know there name. I later found out this was the unofficial second in command, assistant to the regional manager. They asked to keep my ID (passport and birth certificate) over night so that they could 'process it'.

I wasn't comfortable with this but didn't know any better because this was my first job.

During my interview process they asked what days I can work to get to my 16 part time hours. I said 8 on the weekends (1 full work day) and 2 lots of 4hrs during the week (2 evening shifts). My first week in I checked the calendar to find me working 30+ hours during the school time. I brought this up and was greeted with a huff. Thankfully it was soon changed, not that I could do those hours anyway.

After I started, I quickly discovered the hostile work environment. There was a lady (Ms Fakename) who had been there “from the very beginning” as she liked to describe it. All of a few months since the branch opened. She was intolerable and everything had to be her way. Bare in mind, she was not the manager. She even had to nerve to tell management what to do.

After enduring a month of this I was called into the managers office for an informal chat and he told me about my performance. Being a witty teenager I said 'I work part time making sandwich's for minimum wage what do you expect'. He did not like that. I was asked to leave the office and resume work.

The next week the regional manager comes in and tears the branch apart (verbally, manager included). No one knew this at the time, but Ms Fakename had been chatting to the regional manager about how poorly the branch is doing and how lazy we are. Everyone (apart from her) gets sacked on the spot. No notice, no letter. Nothing. Even my manager got the boot.

I didn't care about it one bit. I was going to hand in my notice soon anyway. But what really annoyed me? The next day, during the afternoon, during school time. The regional manager calls me and begs me to come in because they're short staff. I replied “No shit”. He got assy and asked again, but in a rude tone. I told him to fuck himself and hung up. It was the best feeling I've ever had, and I still hold onto it to this day, as a reminder to stand up for myself.

That branch has been closed for a few years now. I wonder why.

Looking back, I'm glad all of this happened. It didn't take up too much of my time, I learned about toxic work environments and what to look out for, and learned how to make a good sandwich.

TL;DR: Worked at Subway for a month, it sucked, everyone got the sack, branch shortly closed.
