Just got headhunted for a really hot job. Company is the type that's building the future of our planet, I can feel good about what I do, and probably get paid well. Everything's going great, they really want me, but then they're like…if we make you an offer, you need to show us proof of your previous salary to seal the deal. Bullshit.
I look this up. It isn't illegal (yet) in the country I live in, but it isn't a legal requirement either, which is what their HR keeps telling me.
They're doing this so they can pay their staff as little as possible. Doesn't matter what budget they have available for the role or how much they think a person's experience is worth, they want to judge based on previous roles.
Apparently the organization is having trouble attracting top talent, and I can tell them why. Doesn't matter what your purpose or vision is. If these are are your crappy hiring practices, it's no wonder people are willing to walk.
