Hey all.
So yesterday at work, I’m minding my business and all of a sudden I hear a man yell, “LETS GO, NOW!” I work for a money company so my thinking was somebody was just caught stealing.
No.
It was a fire drill. No alarms, no flashing lights, nothing. One of the leads came by and was telling us “come yall, it’s a fire drill” while someone made the siren noise with their mouths. By the time we got outside, half of the company was already out there. Sooo..I’m thinking how long was this fire drill going on before I was told??
Fast forward to the end of my day. I’m leaving, going down the hall and this woman is screaming. “The coin room in on fire! It’s a fire!” She was screaming. Now it was storming really bad and the power ended up going out for a minute or so. So I walk near the exit and I see and smell smoke. I walk further and i see the manager of the coin room with a Fire extinguisher. He yells to call the fire dept. so I did. He said to tell them that he thinks lightening hit the building and hit the electrical area cause it’s on fire now.
After calling 911, I called the woman that I share an area with since she was still working. I let her know that the coin room is on fire and to get out. Then I see a lead coming from the work area and she said “did someone say the coin room was on fire?”
The fire dept did come but I didn’t stay to see all of that.
My issue with all of this is THERE WERE ABSOLUTELY NO FIRE ALARMS AT ALL. NOT A FLASHING LIGHT, NOT A SIREN, NOTHING!!
Who should I contact? What should I do? At this point, I’m looking for another job because I do not feel safe there when it comes to anything like that. Also, another coworker says that the building is not ADA friendly so that’s another thing
