I work at a car dealership of 700 employees, it’s huge. My department is small has 5 people in it including my boss. For the third time in the three and a half months I’ve been working here the Covid status of my coworkers was hidden from me. Only after my coworker was gone for two days on a ‘family emergency’ did I get notified they had Covid. A different coworker finished her work day a desk down from me and said, “alrighty time to quarantine now!” Because her son whom she lives with tested positive that morning and she’s not vaccinated. Today I come into work and my boss isn’t there, not unusual her father is in the hospital and said she might be taking time off. One person said she probably wouldn’t be in for the week. An hour into my shift I ask a coworker if she was doing alright or if anyone has been updated (we’re an all woman team and work pretty closely) I’m informed “yeah it’s just Covid, is what (other coworker) said.” What? She has Covid? And I haven’t been told that I might have been exposed? I ask another coworker if she new and sure enough I was the only one who didn’t know! I immediately left the office I sent my boss a text saying I’m leaving for the day, I’ll return when everyone has tested negative. I went home and cried because I had went to my mothers for dinner the night before and I felt awful thinking she could been in the cross fire. I tested negative thank goodness but I am still so freaked out that the health and well being of me and my family isn’t even thought of when I could have been exposed! I make okay money I don’t really care what I do work wise as long as I make money and learn something new! I just don’t know if it’s worth it to stay.
TL;DR my office of five has had 3 Covid cases in three months and it isn’t disclosed to me until later when I ask or after I’ve already been exposed. I’m thinking of looking for a new job because of the unnecessary risk I’ve been put in.
Edit: added TL;DR
