So i'm in my approaching mid 20s and I am uncomfortable with the idea of working 15-25 years to pay off a house that I cannot afford. Housing and paying for other expenses is my main hurdle in terms of having to work those 15-25 years, I have saved about 120k and am willing to compromise things I consider non-essential in order to have a lifestyle where I am more free, instead of having to work full-time for years out of neccessity.
My current plan is to buy an extremely cheap property in a more rural area and spend time fixing it up. As long as I have wifi I can work remote part time for any income that I need.
My parents have told me it is best for me to buy a property as an investment first in my current country, then get the place I was in the rural place. While I initially agreed with this, I feel weird about being obligated to pay off a 200k+ loan and instead thinking of just saying screw it and live in the rural place in another country, which would be less secure though.
What do you guys think I should do?
