I recently noticed adjustments being made to my time card without my knowledge. The times I’m clocking out are being adjusted so that my shifts reflect 8 hours only. I’m a full time employee in healthcare and get paid hourly. In some cases, it’s just 15 min here, 20-30min there…in other cases, a whole hour+ is being adjusted back down to reflect exactly 8 hours. Sometimes, 30 min breaks are being deducted for some days I was unable to take a break.
I asked a coworker if their hours seemed off and they just got kind of quiet and said “yeah, they don’t really like overtime here.”
I had noticed some people setting alarms for the time they should clock out….their alarm will go off, they’ll get up to clock out, then keep working for 1-3 hours over! I asked one of them why they were doing that and they said something along the lines of “well, they’ll just take it out of my check anyways and they get mad if we don’t finish our work.”
Wtf? This employer does hire A LOT of people from overseas so many are here on a workers visa and are on a contract with the company. A lot of them seem way too scared or shy or timid to speak up and say anything. Or maybe they don’t understand they have the same employee rights as a US citizen employee.
This shit is fckd!
I wanna bypass even speaking to HR cuz I’ve seen how they treat people who speak up.
I’m just trying to figure if I should go straight to an employment lawyer or go through the department of labor.
From what I can tell, I can only trace they’ve been doing this to my paychecks since August. (I know, my fault for not religiously keeping record of my paychecks and times.) Some of my coworkers on the other hand, have been dealing with this for a couple years.
I’ve since been screenshotting my time cards when they still say the correct time I’ve been clocking out and then screenshotting again after I’ve seen they adjust the time just to have side by side proof. The app also shows the adjustments made, like “time adjust from 12:03 to 10:30”
I wanna speak up not just for myself, but to also advocate for those too scared to say anything. Something’s gotta give. It’s not right and it’s not fair.
I’m thinking maybe I should have another job lined up before I take action 🤷️
Any of you guys have experience with something similar? What should I do?!
TIA
