I’ve been at this job for only 3 months and I’m already thinking about leaving due to poor time and staff management by the higher ups.
I work as a cashier at a large international supermarket chain (think the place where the cashiers are fast). After closing, 2 members of staff are supposed to clean the tills and the floor near the tills while the other staff clean the rest of the supermarket floor and arrange shelves. Therefore I am scheduled until 9 even though we close at 7 to account for time cleaning, which takes around 2 hours.
However, the way it always plays out is that management does not schedule enough staff so I have to stay on the till until the last customer leaves, which is always at around 8. After 8, I have to clean the tills and the floor entirely by myself while management dick around in the office waiting for me to finish. Since it’s a 2 hour job, I always end up having to leave an hour later than I was supposed to. This happens at every evening shift, without fail.
There are other glaring problems with the company, such as expecting me to attend an unpaid meeting halfway across the country on one of my only days off, but never being allowed to leave once my shift ends is the one that is bothering me the most.
Just once I would like to finish my shift and go home.
