I worked for a local small business that treats employment like high school clique instead of a necessity to pay bills.
So I accepted a job at a body jewelry shop exactly a month ago. It was a lot of daily expectations- answer the phone, answer online chats, print labels, pick and package orders, and help in-store customers. I did my best to remember everything but I did have to be reminded pretty regularly in my time there. All of my coworkers were a big friend group that had worked there for years and I immediately felt like they all didn’t like me. I received one warning from my boss my second week of working there, they said I wasn’t keeping up with my share of the work but I was literally doing the best I could. Well I got the stomach flu on Sunday and texted my boss to let him know I would be out for 4-5 days. He texted me on Monday asking for a doctor’s note. I came in today for my shift and was told it wasn’t working out. He told me that he planned to fire me Saturday, but if that was true why was he asking for a doctor’s note on Monday? I’m 100% sure my coworkers meddled and convinced him to let me go because I didn’t fit into their clique. They said I was hostile and acted like I knew everything which is simply untrue, it was the opposite to the point where I just didn’t talk to my coworkers because they would ignore me or talk over me and I wouldn’t ask questions because they got annoyed that they needed to help me out. I’m so baffled and upset because I genuinely loved the job but my catty bitchy coworkers made it miserable.
