Or at least anti-bullshit, not long after leaving the infamous cellphone store with the bitch manager who tried to have me arrested for quiting, I found myself in between jobs at a chicken fast food place.
Aside from the immediate air of self righteousness that hits you like a ton a bricks when you walk in , it didn't seem half bad.
Or so I thought. For a place that harps on moral values I found it odd that almost everyone was sleeping with someone. I also found it slightly annoying that the owner was beyond self righteous , next tier narcissistic.
I tried to play it cool. I was only passing through after all while looking for a better job, he low balled my pay at entry level despite my experience and said I could move up as I earned it, I thought that's what experience was. (Hard eye roll.)
This dude would bitch constantly at team members about how their “lack of good judgement” would cause his family not to eat. He would yell at the top of his lungs in the back room at team leads for the casual slip up. This dude would wash his hands in the bathroom and wait for someone else to open the door so he wouldn't have to touch the same handle as the common folk.
One day I had my girl drop me off so she could borrow my ride.
The owner was visiting that day and everyone was shitting a brick, with a deep sigh I got started.
That day he had been harping on the use of the proper gloves when breading chicken and said he wouldn't tolerate people handling raw chicken improperly. If you got caught, “you were done.”
Lunch time rush comes around and we are getting slammed , next thing I know, this owner comes in the back with his ape like hairy arms and jumps on the breading table. He then proceeds to bare hand , hairy arms and all, the raw chicken and bread it without ANY gloves.
I see breading caked to his hair and my bullshit meter had burst into flames. I couldn't hold myself and I said ” hey ! You have no gloves on! ”
He immediately tells me that he's the owner and it will be fine, not to worry about it.
The younger co-worker beside me looked at me and smirked and I turned back to the owner and said , “no. That's not what you told us, you said it was against policy.”
He then stopped breading, and told me that when I ran a store I can make those kind of calls, and I said, ” if I ran a store like this, I wouldn't make such a stupid call.”
He got triggered and told me I could leave if I didn't like it, and proceeded to bitch at the floor manager about me.
The younger employees looked at me like I wasn't human and then kind of laughed at the fact that I didn't even have my car with me that day.
One of them even said , dude you won't leave, that's just how he is, just get over it.
At that momment ….. I knew what had to be done next. Not only did I leave mid lunch rush, I walked 7 miles home across 2 busy highways , several intersections and a couple of subdivisions , fuck having a car.
I later came back into that store and waved to my younger companions who still had the job, they came out to say hi and that they couldn't believe I did what I did, I explained that they to never have to put up with bullshit.
