I'll keep it brief.
CURRENT: Copier tech… major player. $20/hr + car allowance (450 a month) + mileage (.26 cents a mile). Laptop, cell phone, expense account. Have the ability to work very few hours vast majority of days. Think 10-2 or 11-3. Short of a major, major repair or a long drawn out installation… most jobs I spit on, shine and run (remove a jam, clear a code, toss in a easy part like a drum or unit). Territory covers 2 states and up to ~ 150 to 200 miles from home daily.
OFFER: Same job. Also a major player. Same machine (plus some I've never even touched before). $12k more a year (over $25/hr). Company vehicle. Company gas card. Laptop, cell phone, expense account. Must be dispatched by 7:30 and onsite at your first call ready to work at 8:00. Must work till 5. 2 weeks PTO to start, 10 sick days. Territory is literally your back yard. COMPANY GPS ON CAR. 100% free and able however to use company vehicle/gas personally nights/weekends (so long as your not taking it on vacation driving all over).
What do you do? Work for real and get paid and additional benefits (like a car and free gas)… or not work hardly at all and enjoy as much freedom as possible being as close to your own boss your gonna be short of actually starting a business?
Cuz this be where I am right now and weighing all my options. Money is always good… but so is the fishing daily while getting paid for it on the side of the lake.
EDIT: I have the weekend to get back to the guy and let him know if I accept.
