I’m new in my industry, have only been on the job for about a month and have had a lot of hot and cold interactions with my team/ manager.
My manger was right in the middle of talking about “our management style” and for some reason I found that funny because I thought he was referring to himself in the 3rd person. So I smiled on the teams meeting. He is our only management and so when we said “our” I smiled because my brother used to always say “we” when he meant he.
This was immediately followed up by him getting super serious and unplugging his laptop and going into a private room so that way we could have a private talk. For the next 45 minutes I was apologizing and saying I didn’t mean anything by it. We had just had another meeting that morning where he was super sarcastic and joking around so I thought that would still be the same atmosphere.
I was super wrong. I’m one smile away from a performance evaluation submission a month in. I super did not expect that to happen.
I left the military for a reason, I thought I could just be me. I feel like I’m walking on eggshells now…
