Told to keep working on a laptop with a swelling battery

My work laptop (which is usually connected to my dock) was running really slow yesterday so I did a restart. It did not auto restart so I had to open the laptop and manually press the power button. That’s when I noticed the touchpad was protruding quite a bit. The battery is swelling and pushing the touchpad up. I immediately shut it off, unplugged it and contacted IT via email on my phone. This was shortly before I left for the day yesterday. This morning I come in and they are telling me to continue to use the laptop until they can order a new one, which might be a few weeks. What the hell! I guess 0 fucks given of the potential toxic fumes and/or fire/explosion if it punctures itself.
