I work in sales. Tomorrow I'll be talking to my supervisor about shifting from permanent part time to full time salary. I've been with this company for a year and a half. When I was hired I was really down on my luck and grateful for the job. Now I'm on my feet and want more. My supervisor assured me back then that there was plenty of room for me in the company. Recently we were bought out by the brand we sell and they are opening new stores all over my state. If there was ever a time for me to fill that supposed room, that time is now.
Tomorrow I'll be discussing moving to a store that's set to open in a month or so, cutting down my travel time from 40-50mins to just 15mins. Not to mention the extra pay. This new company has decided to double our staff numbers and to help with the bombardment of resumes they have hired a third party recruiter to help them. If they refuse me moving up to full time and swapping to this new store in favour of some random person they haven't even hired yet, I'm quitting.
It sucks because they've actually been so good to me. I've never been yelled at, they are endlessly patient and helpful and never put you down for simple mistakes. But I can't stay here if they don't move me up. It doesn't matter how nice they are, if they truly gave a fuck they'd promote me.
A few weeks ago an IT worker that's hired by my company tried to poach me. She's offering me full time work and a traineeship in IT. Something I've been interested in for a long time. If they refuse to promote and move me, I'm calling this woman and getting myself an interview.
