I live in the US and started a new job last week, pays hourly, non-contract, (working from home) and we’ve been training through watching hours and hours worth of modules.
A lot of people aren’t close to finishing due to various different reasons, including company software issues preventing them from accessing the materials for days. The trainer is aware of this and has been encouraging people to work off the clock in order to finish these training modules on time to begin production this week, as you’re fired if you don’t finish in the time allotted.
We use a chat room like Zoom/Teams for our online class for this paid training, specifically it’s Adobe Connect. So it’s most likely all recorded.
So I have a question, what do I do? Can I do anything about this? A few people have admitted in chat that they’ve had to work off the clock to catch up. Do I just contact HR/someone higher up? I’ve never been in this situation before but I know it’s not legal. I just don’t know what steps I can take.
