So I recently got a bit of a promotion to cover a maternity leave at my agency, and the woman who was supposed to train me went into labor A MONTH AND A HALF EARLY, not only that, but on the same day the manager of the department left for Europe for two and a half weeks. Those are the only two people who work in that department, leaving it empty. The manager's email auto-reply directs to the woman who's leave I am supposed to cover, and her auto-reply directs to me.
I have NO training in the role whatsoever. I wasn't even supposed to start training for the position until May 30th (also the day my raise for the role kicks in) but of course emails for the department are being hurled at me left, right, and centre and I have no idea what to answer to the majority of them.
Meanwhile, I'm training someone new to take my CURRENT position so I can move to my new one. It seems management expects me to train the new person while I also train MYSELF for the new role, while taking on some responsibilities of the new role at the same time. I've asked my current manager whether I can also get my raise early due to me taking on the role early, but she says it's up to the manager who's currently in Europe.
I'm feeling absolutely spent after one week of the above. I was so excited to start in this new role, but now I want nothing to do with it. If the manager who can approve of me getting my raise early doesnt approve of it, I'm seriously considering quitting, which sucks because I actually do like my place of work and the field I'm in.
Any advice for the predicament I'm in?
