I just wanted to share that my workplace has begun the steps of contacting a union to join! We are caretakers and I have finally had enough, I'm putting my foot down and have begun to gather staff to talk about unionizing. So far the response has seemed positive. My workplace is constantly saying we are fully staffed and delegated for tasks but this is untrue. They have also begun to cut back on bonuses and benefits citing rising costs. We know we have not really been hiring more people and yet we have received more clients, so talking about increased costs has been a bit of BS salt in the wound.
Finally today we received a notice that all our schedules were likely to change, some OT is being cut back on and a bunch of people are being moved to 3 day weekend shifts despite previous availability. I would be unable to work as there wouldn't be anyone to care for my dog.
