(TW: suicide) What accommodations should be in made in the workplace for suicidal people to keep jobs and make progress for their recovery?

Mental health, physical illness and disability are definitely barriers to maintain employment, especially with the general culture around productivity expectations. One big consequence of the inability to access resources and support, on top of no or limited income, is suicide and suicidal ideation. The cyclical nature of illness is that it impacts your ability to function, to care for your wellbeing and to participate in the community, which in turn exacerbates conditions. When you have no will to live, then there is hardly a will to work and especially to work in toxic conditions with no self-advocacy and where self-esteem is deliberately suppressed. When therapy and medication is inaccessible and “self care” is expensive and takes time away from when you could be making money, how can we help people to not take their lives? What alternatives are there? How can workplace environments be altered to effectively save lives and…
