I am SEETHING. I have noticed it and spoken to the baristas and I don't want to say what they're sitting on because I don't want them to get in trouble.
Australia is NOT known for its “don't let people have chairs” work mentality. This is NOT normal for my usual coffee shops.
I've written 3 letters now to the owners and still – no chairs. I've stopped buying coffee, especially since the uni just closed 2 shops, “letting the staff go” with 0 notice. 0.
My friend is one of the baristas at the sister uni to the one I go to – and they whole ass just never told her that their contract was sold to another shop. At least she got a chair?

TELL ME A SINGLE UNIVERSITY STUDENT/UNI THAT WOULD SURVIVE NOT HAVING A BARISTA. COME ON. WHAT WOULD A UNI BE WITHOUT COFFEE??? HMMMM???
these people literally work their assess off standing with no chairs for 5-12 hours at a time…
I want to do something. This is seriously making me angry. The baristas are always overworked, in pain, tired.
The ONLY thing they say is the pay “isnt bad”. Some even say its “good”.
Wow. Just wow.
Like I said, I've written letters – I also left negative reviews on their shops.
Thing is I miss “my” baristas. I adore them. I adore how they treat us and how they ask about my studies and how L just had her baby and how R has her own makeup YouTube channel taking off…. I miss the ones that lost their contracts… How is R anyway? I really REALLY miss him.
I guess I'm angry at 3 things
No chairs
Sudden contract upheavals
“not bad” pay
…. Surely SURELY the students care about their baristas and we could do something, right??? What can we do? These people basically run the uni 100x harder than the Dean and she gets a marble bathroom and the baristas get sore calves and take busses in a Pandemic while pregnant. (!!!!)
Is there anyone higher up than the business itself I can complain to about this treatment?
