I work in healthcare and my particular role has been understaffed for the better part of 4 years. I’d typically not ask for PTO during especially brutal times of understaffing but I’m coming to the revelation that this is not my problem to fix as a lowly staff member. I mentioned my concern to my uplines who asked why I was so concerned about this and i of course can take PTO. I sent the weeks I wanted off and they sent back the days to me and asked me to arrange my own coverage. I’m basically being restricted from using my own employment benefit. For additional background, I was almost furloughed in 2020 bc I was told I had so much PTO in my bank. Is it worth going to HR? I understand healthcare is in a continuous shortage but as someone said in this thread “my altruism has already been taken advantage of”.
