I was talking to a coworker recently from another department and he was explaining how a lot of the applicants for a position were no-showing for interviews, not even a call or email to postpone. I was kind of taken aback as If you landed an opportunity you would try to go to the interview to see if the job was worth it( my company is professional and wouldn't waste an applicants time).
Now he proceeded to say his wife told him that people on unemployment can trick the system in thinking they are job searching by landing interviews and just not showing? Is there any truth to this or is it just anecdotal and not backed up by statistics.
My company is not the best and not the worst, upper management does not give out raises enough despite protests by my department heads. However, they are very professional and do not treat potential hires poorly. I haven't had any issues taking off for sick time/ they gave us paid leave if we got covid. I am just curious as I really don't buy into the myth that “no one wants to work anymore”
