In Germany, Cologne, 1.600 workers of a ALDI regional company wanted to vote a workers council at April 14th 2022. 526 workers took part, of which around 100 were branch managers, presumably sent by the management. The branch managers disrupted the meeting, which finally had to be broken off because a riot broke out.
Many Aldi workers had expected that the meeting would not be a smooth walk-through. However, no one had imagined that the atmosphere would be so aggressively charged that some were worried that the works council initiators could be physically attacked or that there could be mass panic.
The initiative action against injustice at work demands the Cologne public prosecutor's office to take up immediately investigations to the course of events and its completely obviously planned preparation.
