I work at an old textile mill. Our contract is up this year. We have no union rep and my coworkers are pissed over low wage, vacation time, and understaffed.
To my surprise my fellow workers from all walks of life and politics have organized our own union meetings, for every shift, every week. Before this the Local only held union meetings for day shift workers.
Everyone whose showed up to Union meetings have agreed that if the company doesn't commit to a MINIMUM $5/HR raise over 3 years then we walk the fuck out. Regardless of an authorized strike vote. I'm nervous because of this but we don't know what else to do. Advice accepted. AMA.
