unionizing uk

So, I am the manager of a coffee shop in the UK, and we are now going to be open Christmas day, with no extra pay or additional benefits at all. We were also open the day of the queen's funeral, which turned out to be our busiest day that week, my staff are discussing joining a union and trying to secure something extra for those working over Christmas, which includes me, I want to help them, but don't know how involved I can be without jeopardizing my job. Any advice welcome!
