UPDATE: After mid year review, I’m no longer on the promotion track? Fine I’ll make my own promotion

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/was25e/after_mid_year_review_im_no_longer_on_the/ Last week a new boss hired fresh outside the company gave me my mid year review and told me I’m performing at my current level despite my former boss putting me in for promotion for the last 4 years. I’ve been at my current level (Senior Engineer) for the last 8 years. Basically my new boss took me off the promotion track, possibly as retaliation for recent FMLA leave of absence I took to take care of a dying family member. I saw a position open on my company’s job site for a Principal Engineer level position, so I decided to apply for it. The work is the same as what I do, just with the promotion built in. Fuck my shitty, idiot boss. I’m firing him. Yesterday I received an offer for the new position. 10% salary increase plus 40 hours additional PTO. The company recruiter…

Last week a new boss hired fresh outside the company gave me my mid year review and told me I’m performing at my current level despite my former boss putting me in for promotion for the last 4 years.

The company recruiter said my boss was “pissed” and to expect him to match the offer. My boss called shortly after with the match, asking me if I thought he “was a good manager.” He said, “you’ll be leaving us high and dry without you.” LOL. I explained that I didn’t have much choice since I am at the maximum of my salary range and I’ll get 0% raises soon if I don’t get promoted.

Word got around quickly since my boss is talking. A program manager I work closely with texted me, “LOL. See it takes threats at that stupid place.” The recruiter opened his call with, “Wow you’re the man in demand.” I’m taking the new position, and the work is basically the same as I’ve always had except with a different boss. I need a boss who has vision and actually builds a team instead of parroting corporate talking points designed by HR to screw us over.

Companies fuck themselves by only treating their people right once they’re leaving. People make the company, and they are nothing without us. My boss fucked around and found out. Others at my site are already asking me how I found the internal jobs site, and I think I’m sparking a miniature workers’ revolt LOL.

tldr; denied a promotion for 4 years, 8 years in current position. Applied to a higher level position on an internal company jobs site, got the job. Fired my idiot boss.
