Update: Overnight private security watching the world fall apart.

The original: I was just putting together a quarterly report for my boss man, when I started looking through our database. Here’s some concerning facts I uncovered. Code 21 incidents (violent patient behavior) are a little over three times more common than they were five years ago. reported employee injuries have almost quadrupled since the pre-COVID days. (Though this may be due to a greater emphasis on reporting, since they now insist that everything get documented. I had to formally report a minor cut last week because a patient whipped me with a phone charger) hands on security interventions now average 2.1 instances per shift. (3 security staff per shift, for perspective). In any given 24 hour period, there will be an average of 6 times when one of my dudes literally has to put hands on someone to stop them from attacking the staff. what in the actual hell…

I was just putting together a quarterly report for my boss man, when I started looking through our database. Here’s some concerning facts I uncovered.

  • Code 21 incidents (violent patient behavior) are a little over three times more common than they were five years ago.

  • reported employee injuries have almost quadrupled since the pre-COVID days. (Though this may be due to a greater emphasis on reporting, since they now insist that everything get documented. I had to formally report a minor cut last week because a patient whipped me with a phone charger)

  • hands on security interventions now average 2.1 instances per shift. (3 security staff per shift, for perspective). In any given 24 hour period, there will be an average of 6 times when one of my dudes literally has to put hands on someone to stop them from attacking the staff.

  • what in the actual hell is going on lately?

The update:

  • because of substandard pay and a shit schedule, we are very nearly 50% understaffed. We’re supposed to have four per shift, and we’re lucky to have two. That’s two people, to secure an entire hospital including the exterior and parking ramps. One of us is required to be in the mental health section 24/7, so if there’s an incident anywhere else in the building, you’ll be going to it without backup.

  • there are no applicants for the job. Someone on my shift quit four months ago, and they haven’t even interviewed anyone for it.

  • A number of the medical staff are going on strike due to the increase in violence and the lack of security

  • our hospital is very soon going to fall apart.
