Has anyone else been receiving tons of anti-union junk mail from The Freedom Foundation? Over the last 6 months I have had 4 or 5 pieces of mail, 2 today, basically taunting me with 'free money' if I opt out of my union. The two mailers I had today asked me if I knew how many tanks of gas I could buy if I stopped paying union dues; the other was an official-looking “Confidential Union Satisfaction Survey” with totally unbiased questions like “Do you agree with your union's spending practices?” and “Do you think that member's [sic] concerns are really the union's top priority?” For the record, I work in the public sector and have been a union member for over 20 years, and am disgusted by these anti-union tactics.
The organization behind them is The Freedom Foundation (“Fighting for workers rights”). Rather than telling you why they think unions are bad, they simply focus on the money and imply that you are dissatisfied with your union. Doing some digging, they are funded by ALEC and, in short, advocate the privatization of public services.
Is this some push going into the midterm elections, do you think? What can we do to make the Freedom Foundations life hell?
