So for some background I am 21F working in the IT industry employed at my first IT job. I am currently employed at a small MSP (mass service provider) company and was offered a job position at a new company. I need to let both jobs know my answer in 12 hours.

Job 1/Current Job:

  • Small company, only myself, one coworker, and my boss
  • Kind and somewhat family oriented work environment
  • Challenging work, gaining lots of experience in various aspects
  • Salaried at $30,000, offered to give me a raise to $37,000 for me to stay BUT I will not receive a raise for the next two years
  • Mon thru Fri 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • 14 days PTO/year
  • Own person office in the work building
  • On call two weekends per month
  • Lots of road work on an almost daily basis
  • Commute to work is 40 minutes one way

Job 2/Possible Job:

  • Small team (6 people) in a healthcare environment
  • Less challenging work, less experience to gain (Password resets, email troubleshooting, VPN troubleshooting) for internal employees only
  • $19/hr ($39,520 at 40 hrs a week for 52 weeks)
  • Mon thru Fri 10 AM – 6:30 PM
  • No PTO until 4 months in
  • Fully remote (No commute = less gas expenses)
  • Holidays are optional, time and a half or day off
  • Slower pace (Work at your own pace)

I am torn on what to do. I have been somewhat unhappy at my current job due to the on call, low salary, and constant roadwork. However, I really enjoy working with my boss and co-worker. They have both taught me a tremendous amount in the time I've been there and have jumped through hoops to make me feel comfortable.

With this new job I'd be making more money and spending less (on gas). However, it is a big unknown and I have never worked from home before and have heard it can be terrible on mental health.

I have to reach a decision by the end of my shift tomorrow and I cannot seem to decide. My heart says one thing and brain says another, so here I am asking strangers on Reddit to help me see something that I am perhaps not seeing.

I know it's not healthy to look to other people to make decisions for you, especially these big life altering ones. I am moreso interested in if my anxiety is causing me to overlook something, or forget to take something into account

TL;DR Remote job, better pay, spending less $, less mentally stimulating, big unknown. OR current job, less pay, gas $, more challenging, comfortable?

Thanks in advance!
