used to work for the government and it blew a$$. Now a friend of mine got denied a higher position there.

Can’t say the specific branch of government, but i used to work an office desk job. Its the kind of job that everyone wants to have, full time, sitting at a desk all day, decent pay (about $17/hr) I despised it. The managers were all on power trips despite being worse at the actual job than us. it was hellish-ly quiet and they discouraged camaraderie. They gave us hope for telework or a morning schedule (i worked swing, hated it) time and time again just to take it away from us. We ‘worked’ for two months straight with absolutely no work to do, so essentially we sat there day after day 8 hours a day staring at a screen because we weren’t allowed to do anything else on company time. I despised it. The managers were all on power trips despite being worse at the actual job than us. it was hellish-ly quiet and they discouraged camaraderie. I had a stretch of about a month with a really awesome manager (she was very sweet and understood we knew more than her so she helped where she could), only for them to place me in a new unit with a bitch of a manager because I was one out of two people in the unit they denied telework to. She hated me because i was new, never bothered to remember my name, gave me awful reviews on really mundane mistakes that she let slide with everyone else.

She fired me for attendance issues, and while i had genuine issues in the past that i hoped they’d fire me for, she fired me for a week I took off with an awful cold, claiming i never called in even though I let her know every day i was out that i was sick. no big, I was happy to be away from that godforsaken place.

Well, i made a friend there who was very good at her job. Always went above and beyond. She still worked there after i was fired, and applied for a managerial position that she honestly deserved. She took on lead duties all the time with no extra pay.

they offered it to her, and she called me screaming in excitement, i was so proud of her and all she could talk about was trying to be a good manager and being helpful.

Welp, today they called her and told her ‘actually sorry u haven’t been at ur current grade long enough were rescinding the offer’. I just cannot stand how poorly government services are run that they hired my old shitty manager that was mean and didn’t know a damn thing but not her, who had been doing the work for years. there were many other ways that they were poorly run too that i wont get into cause this post is long enough, but when you wonder why our government doesn’t do shit for us, just take a look at who they allow to run it. absolute shitshow.
