Vile tricks in online application forms

A good friend of mine is a former colleague who is a top-notch web designer. I met him for lunch earlier today and came back to the office shocked at the tale he conveyed. A good friend of mine is a former colleague who is a top-notch web designer. I met him for lunch earlier today and came back to the office shocked at the tale he conveyed.

He was contracted by a company to construct a series of forms for their employment portal. But the HR Director mandated that because the company stresses extreme accuracy and attention to detail in their job vacancies, that a method was requested to weed out those whose attention to detail is lacking.

He went on to say how this HR Director gave a specification for several portions of the application to have a script that altered the employment dates randomly. At the end of the application process when the applicant reviews before submitting, is the final chance to proofread and correct any abnormalities.

He's a good guy but from a country where they pretty much comply with a higher-up's dictates. Despite feeling uneasy about it, he implemented this script that varies between sections and randomly changes a year on the applicant's job history.

Then a final script once submitted to compare the output of the submission against the earlier job history date fields. Exact matches equal a valid submittal whilst uncorrected data is parsed into a different folder, but still accepted.

I was aghast as he told me this. Worst thing was he said the HR Director had told several of their colleagues and they have reached out to the web developer for estimates.

Always check your input before submitting any job application to avoid such underhanded fuckery like this.

Applicant Emptor.
