A group of waiters are rallying up infront of the capitol building in San Juan and in front of restaurant locations calling waiters to not go to work today on Valentine's day. They are asking that the governor eliminates sub salaries, a move that will force all employers of tipped workers to pay them minimum wage. This comes after weeks of similar protests by public workers which resulted in a recent increase of $1000 per month for local school teachers in the island and a $250 increase for firemen. This last saturday 80% of paramedics in the island were abscent from work as protest. The police is in talks of going on strike as well after the governor infamously said “no one is forcing anyone to be a cop” when asked about policemen salaries. It is a time of change in Puerto Rico.
