Waiting two weeks for a paycheck is bullshit.

When you make low wages, two weeks is an eternity to receive those wages. Last summer I was fired from my job. My boss had stolen thousands in tips from me and I got in a massive blowout with him over it. It took the state months to unravel this pricks mess and get me unemployment. I got hired by a business that was paying a much higher hourly rate, but I had to drive to another state for training and stay in a hotel for a week. I had $120 in the bank. I made it through the week by eating the shitty continental breakfasts in the hotel lobby and some peanut butter I brought with me. I drove home at the end of the week and started the job at this new facility immediately. This is when things became extremely tight. Our internet was shut off, our rent…

Our internet was shut off, our rent was late, and my phone was being murdered by collectors.

I had burned all my money and all the gas in my wife's car driving to and from out state. I switched over to my truck, which had EXACTLY enough gas in it to get me to the pay day at the end of the second week. At midnight, when my check hit, I drove into the gas station to fill up my truck. I wanted to get my tank filled before the morning auto withdrawals took all our money. I pulled into the gas station, parked the truck, and sighed in relief. I literally sat in the truck for maybe 10 seconds before it ran out of gas and shut off.

It was that close.

All because I had to wait two weeks to get paid. We lost so much to late fees that it ended up eating 1/3 of my check. People making six figures or more don't see shit like this, or they do and they just simply don't give a fuck. I don't care why they do it, we shouldn't except this enormous risk being dumped on us. If you're an hourly employee this shit will keep you poor by burying you under late fees and missed opportunities.
