I had previously called out a couple days and my boss said I had to get a doctors note for HR to get put back on the schedule, I had currently been taken off the schedule for the current week. I don't know how I was going to get some doctors note for the days I had called out sick,I don't even have a primary doctor, but that's just some background details. The main problem started when he asked me to come in and work Thanksgiving at 10am (after making the request for a doctors note to be put back on the regular schedule).
Had to walk 6 miles to work because the city bus is shut down on holidays. Worked the first half of the day and he said I could head out to see my family for dinner.
When my check showed up, it was short a bunch of hours. I confronted him and he said I had came in late the previous week (by a number of hours, said the computer system) I showed him my phones location data showing I was at work the entire shift. Then he said that I did not work on thanksgiving, I showed him more phone location data showing that I was at the job that day)
He agreed to pay me the missing hours when I confronted him with my google location data from my phone, but stopped responding to the text conversation early in the evening.
Called back immediately later that night when I texted asking if I should go to HR about the missing hours on my paycheck. Said he won't be threatened with me contacting HR, re-asserted that I was lying about being at work and that I need to find new employment.
I just want to work, can't believe I'd ever even see wage theft in real life.
Filed for unemployment, not sure what will happen with that. Sitting here about to get an eviction notice because I can't cover rent. I went to the social services department for my state and they said they have ran out of money for rental assistance for the moment. Not sure if I would even qualify anyway.
So sick of this industry…. hell, this country.
Just wanted to vent after seeing the Walmart post about walking to work in 9F weather… Def the worst thanksgiving story I've got now.
