Walmart is dipping their toes into the water of using gig workers (independent contractors) who will have no rights, no minimum wage protections and no worker protections as temp employees when demand is high
How are they doing this?
They’re developed an app called Spark Driver
It’s basically Walmarts Uber style workforce. It’s Walmart but under a different name.
How are they getting away with it?
Well it’s pretty simple. All you have to do is be Walmart and create an app under a different name (Spark Driver) then the app you’ve developed and have full control over and answer support questions with your employees down in Arkansas you just outsource your payments to a company in California called Delivery Drivers Inc and now because independent contractor laws are a fucking joke you have independent contractors and not employees.
They have some of their “independent contractors” literally doing THE SAME FUCKING work as their employed hourly employees IN STORE.
It’s employees on demand. The largest employer in the US setting a dangerous precedent AND NOBODY KNOWS ITS HAPPENING
