I work in a specific department at Company X. I love my position, and I'm good at it. Many other people at this company have moved up from my position to a supervisor position, and while I've been asked time and time again, “Why haven't you gone for supervisor?” “When are you going to apply for supervisor?” “You're ready for a supervisor position.” Basically led to believe they really wanted me badly and I was a shoe-in. I have stood my ground, proclaiming that I like the department I'm in.
The supervisor position pays a couple bucks more an hour, but it's more stressful. Until now, I've been mostly okay with getting a little less pay in exchange for actually loving my job. Recent times, however, have demanded a higher paycheck for most of us. I'd been considering it for a few months, but I'll only work a morning/day position and there haven't been any open, so I haven't applied. So when this last round of supervisor interviews came up, the director and manager of my center told me they wanted to get me interviewed just in case a morning position opened up.
The first interview was just with the two of them, and more of a formality, as I know that they know me well and I've interviewed with them before, for my current position. The second interview is done with the director and a higher-up dude. I've been told my the many supervisors I've talked to about how to talk with him. They say don't BS him; don't just say what you think he wants to hear. He wants to know who you really are. So I did. I have good, solid, honest answers to his questions, and I thought the interview went well. I also happen to know that a couple morning positions have opened up.
I got called up to the director's office later, sure that they wanted to either discuss schedule, or to simply inform me that there wasn't a morning position for me at this time. You could've knocked me over with a feather when they simply said, “We've decided not to move forward with you at this time”. No reason given. “We can discuss feedback later”. Yeah, I'll give YOU some feedback…
Bunch of BS to lead someone down the garden path and build them up, and then when they finally give in, you snub them. What absolute sh*t. Maybe it was all Corporate Dude's decision, but if so, it would've been nice to hear that they fought for me or something. And maybe they didn't.
I think it's completely fecking bogus that, although you are perfectly qualified to do a job, you're not going to get it because somebody didn't like the way you answered a question. It's not like they don't KNOW me and KNOW I could do the damn job. I'm so livid.
Honestly don't even know of other companies that make you do internal interviews for a promotion anyway. Never had to before. Most places, they see you're a good worker, etc., they offer a higher position. This place makes you interview for it. I don't interview well. Just not my strong suit. But I could do the hell out of the job. Last couple of people they hired, two weren't doing all their reports, and one stepped down during the training. So maybe their method of picking people isn't so fool proof.
Basically just wanted to rant this somewhere where people understand.
TLDR: Was encouraged repeatedly to apply for internal position because they knew I was good for it, then when did, was shot down.
