So I'm an equipment operator. Every one of us that works at the company is paid a different rate based on experience and when we were hired.
A year ago we got a very lucrative contract for one of the biggest jobs in the country. Our boss had to hire some operators from out of state to move out here and fill in roles on this contract. They make somewhere in the neighborhood of $5 to $7/hr more then I do.
At first this was no big deal to me. They were doing work I didn't want to do and working hours I didn't want to work. So the fact they made so much more didn't bother me, I wouldn't have wanted to do the work even if I made that much more.
However now both of these guys have built a reputation for treating our equipment like shit. They've caused tens of thousands of dollars of damage. One of them has gotten kicked off this contract he was specifically hired to work on due to shitty behavior to customers and the other has just refused to continue doing that work and wants to do the work the rest of us do.
So now I'm doing my normal work, alongside guys who have terrible reputations for breaking all our stuff and who make a shit load more money than I do and I'm fucking pissed. To top it all off our manager has dragged his feet for three weeks on even giving me an answer on a raise I requested.
It's getting harder and harder to bother setting my alarm for 1 am to get up and go into work knowing guys who are much worse at this job than I am are rewarded so much more even though all they do is fuck up.
