WANTED: Fist hand accounts from data analysts who hated life so much they just made the numbers up

I've heard a story from my network recently about a data analyst within a marketing analytics team based in London who was fired (his director resigned over it as well) after having been found out to have been completely made up the stats he was giving out in one of his monthly reports for two years. My questions to everyone in this Reddit group are: Have you ever done this, or do you know another data/BI analyst who has? Did you get away with it? What were the organisational circumstances, frustrations and general motivational factors that led you to do it? Would you be happy to tell the whole story (anonymously if you wish).
