Job is as a medical assistant for $20/hour (min.wage here is $15), part-time saturdays only, 10 hour shift, starts at 6am to assist for a urology clinic. Responsibilities include answering phone calls, assisting in procedure, and translating for patients or something similar of the sorts. Nothing too hard.
They called and showed interest to hire me as I applied (a year ago) with a bachelor’s degree and as I am fluent in Russian. They asked for my college transcripts and my SAT scores (from 2015 which was weird). I provided them my SAT II bio and chem scores as i only took the subject test and never did the general SAT I. They said okay and asked me to do an online test for an assessment as the last step, and told me I don’t need to prepare or study for anything at all. I research the online test website just to see what kind of questions i can expect and see a lot of common sense IQ questions. Fair enough, I didn’t worry much and entered the proctored online test where they tracked my screen.
I was SHOOKETHH by the first question: it showed me 2 uneven triangles within a larger triangle with angle degree values varying from x, x-9, to (x2+4)/p and asked me to calculate the angle of one of the smaller triangles (something of the sorts). 48 similar questions for 60 minutes, half math half verbal sections.
Needless to say, I was panicking, sweating and trying my best as I haven’t been in school for more than 2 years and it was clear I could answer 1 or 2 questions with confidence. The test platform didn’t even have the calculator it claimed it had, would warn me that i would be terminated from the test if i tried to open my calculator app on my laptop and failed to load the verbal section (I refreshed and it terminated my test ).
I googled 2 or 3 of the questions i remembered from the math section after the test and ALL OF THEM are sample questions from the GMAT…… In what world, would I need ADVANCED TRIGONOMETRY to help pass the O.R. towel to the physician or take urine samples from patients?
Now that I realize I was taking a GMAT test, I’m so upset I wasted time to trying the test and that I felt like an idiot while taking it. Obviously, I’m not going to move forward with this place but what in the world are these places even thinking or doing… I bet you the physician who I spoke to or any of the hiring mangers can’t take this test either.
