Was told not to call an ambulance.

I am going to try and keep this as vague as possible for personal security but I need some advice. I am an assistant director of a grocery store in Missouri. recently one of my employees fell and broke their wrist. I immediately called them an ambulance and they went to the hospital. When I spoke to my boss about it I was told that I should not have called the ambulance and instead should have driven her to the hospital, over 20 miles away, myself. I am new to management and am just wondering if there is anything I can do to protect my employee from any backlash because of my actions.
