So I used to work at a popular smoothie place an a college campus. Let's call it Yamba Yuice. My issues with working here were many but, as a full time student, I needed the flexibility of working on campus.
One issue was that I have chronic migraines so there were times I had to call out. Long story short, manager would tell me about how their migraines went away after a Mexican coke and even tried to see if I'd drive down and come in after I'd informed them that I was on a strong muscle relaxer.
But the icing on the cake was 1 particular item…
Smootie Bowls. These $9 items were just thick smooties with fresh toppings. Firstly, I tried to take an extra second or 2 to make it look nice. I'd try to layer the topping like in the product photos. Nope! Took too long and I needed to just slap them on and get it out.
The real problem came when we were in between restocking fresh produce. I pulled out the strawberries to chop up and I would pull out any obviously bad ones (usually only 1 or 2) before washing. This container had more bad ones than usual. I tell my manager about this and they to just cut the bad parts off and use what I could. This doesn't sit right with me since 1. Yuck! And 2. I'm studying biotechnology and I know that's not how mold works.
I was so tired of my efforts to do well being punished while being belittled for my illness. All of this culminated in me telling my shift lead (who was so awesome!) that I wouldn't be back the next day. My manager asked to talk to me the next morning and during that conversation went on about how it wasn't very professional and that unfortunately they'd have to let future employers who call to ask about me know about me quitting without notice…
Over 3 years later and I've been working at my dream job for 2 years and only list them on my resume to fill the employment gap hahaha.
Suck it smootie bitch.
