So I've been looking around for a part-time remote job that won't stress me out too much. I tried to apply for one remote support position recently. (I have decades of technical skills on my resume) Their assessments took an hour, and the program they use to check my computer didn't like my low available drive space (10gb, they wanted 12) or the ping on my Starlink.
This morning they called me for an interview. I expected them to be arrogant, but they were a step beyond. They insisted on asking about all the jobs on my resume and how they pertained to their job. And each and every time they went out of their way to be condescending. Which in some cases was actually kind of funny, because it was extremely difficult for them to act like 5 years in a phone support center did not directly apply to their position. 🤣 I got the distinct failing they were not used to talking to somebody that had extensive experience.
They said that the pay rate was $2 an hour lower than what was listed on the website. (Which was already 1/3 of what I've been paid at my last position) And they also said they were “troubled” by the results on my computer.
At this point I shifted from anything serious into vengeance mode.
I told them I have no control over my ping times, but that my internet is in fact high speed. (Which it is.) I also said, “I can free up some drive space, hold on a second.” Then put them on mute and put down the phone.
After roughly 20 minutes they hung up and called me back. “What happened?”, They said. “Oh, I figured since you wasted my time the least I could do is waste yours. Good luck finding the slave labor you're looking for.” Then hung up.
I'm not usually this petty, but I'm really tired of the extreme arrogance we're seeing from companies.
If you know you won't get the job don't bother being nice.
